Surround Yourself with Supporters

Friends Are Our FamilyOver the course of my life, I’ve come to realize that we need to build our own families from the people around us. Due to the mobile, transient society we live in, genetic family is sometimes spread across the globe. Finding people around us whom we love and connect with, is important – more so for some than others. Build your own family.

It is important to surround ourselves with people we trust and who support us. In the last few years, I’ve walked away from several friends because of their inability to accept me for who I am. I also have learned to walk away from people who can’t share my dreams, hear the cry of my soul, or support my craziness.

More importantly, if someone is abusive, angry, close-minded, or unwilling to share – I have to walk away.

Thank you for saying so well what is in my heart. It often hurts to walk away or let others go, but we must. And those we surround ourselves with bring joy to life that is immeasurable. I also believe it shows bits and pieces of how God desires us to be in relationship with Him.

The hard part here is that we don’t always take the easy route and associate with people who agree with us, or who don’t challenge us. Too often we avoid conflict at our own peril.

One of the best things about my marriage is the defining nature of conflict, affirmation, and reflection. Without my Wonderful Wife, I may continue to ignore the blind-spots, in my life.

Of course, this conflict needs to be appropriate and not abusive.

What's this?
